Don Paterson Late Night Readings

Wed 25th April 2018
8.30pm - 9.30pm
The White Swan Hotel

Spend the evening with one of the most acclaimed and admired poets of his generation. He’ll be discussing The Poem attempts to answer several questions: what is a poem? In what way is its use of language distinct? What conditions allow it to arise, and what is its cultural purpose? And how, exactly, do poems work? He’ll look at the writing, transmission and reading of poetry with wit and scholarly flair. Don Paterson is the author of Nil Nil, winner of the Forward Prize for Best First Collection; God's Gift to Women, winner of both the TS Eliot Prize and the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize; and Landing Light, which won both the TS Eliot Prize and the Whitbread Prize for Poetry. Rain won the Forward Prize for Best Collection in 2009, the same year that he was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry. He has also published two collections of aphorisms. Paterson is Professor of Poetry at the University of St Andrews and Poetry Editor at Picador Macmillan.
