We mark 100 years since women won the right to vote and the first female MP took a seat in Parliament (though being Sinn Fein she never took it up) in a chat with one of the longest serving women MPs and Mother of the House, and one of the newest. The Woman’s Hour presenter Jane Garvey will explore with these two influential women how far women have come in politics, ask how hard is the job in these days of social media abuse and look at whether democracy is where it should be when it comes to the unequal balance on men to women at the influential level of public life?
