The highly-respected politician and historian leads us through the story of the Catholics in Britain and Ireland from the Reformation to the present day in a single volume.

Roy Hattersley, who was elected to Parliament in 1964 and whose 22 books include The Edwardians: Borrowed Time and acclaimed biographies of John Wesley and Lloyd George, offers a deep analysis of a religion whose history has been both controversial and at times beleaguered.
