Stories have an immense power to shape reality – so, what happens if those stories are untrue or if history forgets or represses some of them? Two influential writers discuss truth in a post truth world. Hector Macdonald, the strategic communications consultant, is the author of Truth – A User’s Guide, in which he explores how truth is used and abused in politics, business, the media and everyday life and how, as communicators, we select the truths that are most useful to our agenda. Marcel Theroux is the author of five novels including The Paperchase, winner of the 2002 Somerset Maugham Award. His latest, The Secret Books, It is the epic story based on tre events of a young man on the make in a turbulent world of spies and propaganda which eerily foreshadows our own era of post-truth politics.
