Maziar Bahari

Date/time:
Sun 22nd April 2012
5.00pm
Venue:
Shakespeare Centre
Price:
£12

Iranian journalist and filmmaker Maziar Bahari left London in June 2009 to cover Iran’s presidential election, believing he’d return in just a few days. In fact he would spend the next three months in Iran’s most notorious prison, enduring brutal interrogation sessions
while terrible threats were made to his family. Then They Came for Me brings a uniquely personal insight to the political turmoil of Iran, as he delves into the country’s history of political oppression through his family’s experiences:
his own imprisonment under Ahmadinejad, but also his father’s in the time of the Shah and his sister’s under Khomeini. An intimate and extraordinarily moving account of contemporary Iran, the book is the stunning story one family’s
courage in the face of repression.
Maziar will be in conversation with Lindsey Hilsum, International Editor Channel 4 News.
