Richard Spender The Laughing Cavalier

Sun 22nd April 2018
3.00pm - 4.00pm
Shakespeare's School Room

Spender, a KES Stratford Grammar boy, was something of a hero at school and then became a notable poet. Although awarded a Scholarship to Oxford, he joined the army and later the Parachute Regiment. His poetry was published widely both in this country and in America but he was killed, aged just 21, attacking a German machine gun position in Tunisia in 1943. Perry Mills and Richard Pearson of KES mark the publication of A Laughing Cavalier with poems and readings from the short but inspired life of one of the most promising poets of the 20th Century. Takes place in Shakespeare’s School Room.
