Three of the country’s most admired historical fiction writers talk about the techniques and research they use to take the reader into a time and a place they have never lived, recreating the smells, sounds and atmosphere of days gone by. Katherine Clements’ latest novel, The Coffin Path, is an eerie and compelling seventeenth-century ghost story set on the dark wilds of the Yorkshire moors. Rory Clements (no relation!) is the Sunday Times bestselling author of the John Shakespeare series of Tudor spy thrillers. His latest novel is Nucleus, second in the Tom Wilde series of thrillers. Samantha Harvey, whose latest novel is The Western Wind, is the author of The Wilderness, All Is Song and Dear Thief. She appeared on the longlists for the Bailey’s Prize and the Man Booker, and the shortlists of the James Tait Black Award, the Orange Prize, and the Guardian First Book Award. The Wilderness won the Betty Trask Award in 2009. She is a tutor on the MA course in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University.
