To mark the anniversary of World War II, we look at the impact of the Holocaust on families at the time, and the legacy down the generations. In 1939, Jonathan Lichtenstein’s father escaped Nazi-occupied Berlin as a child refugee on the Kindertransport. Lichtenstein’s book, The Berlin Shadow, traces the journey back to Berlin to lay to rest that traumatic past. The bestselling author and poet, and former Children’s Laureate, Michael Rosen has catalogued in his new book, The Missing, the true story of his search for his relatives who ‘went missing’ during the War.
