We cannot understand ourselves, others and our world unless we know the past. Yet history must be used with care or it can cause damage, even evil. We welcome the Reith Lecturer and one of the most acclaimed modern historians in the world - Professor of History at the University of Toronto and emeritus Professor of International History at St Antony’s College Oxford. Her books include Women of the Raj, and Paris 1919: Six Months That Changed the World for which she was the first woman to win the Samuel Johnson prize; Nixon in China: Six Days that Changed the World and The Uses and Abuses of History.
