Families are central to our lives and the centre of many a book plot from Anthony to Joanna Trollope, but translating them convincingly to the page can be diffi cult. Rebecca Wait has tackled subjects as diverse as suicide, cults and autism and her latest book, Our Fathers, explores redemption, control and love through the story of a family destroyed by violence. Kate Riordan is a writer and journalist whose previous novels include The Girl in the Photograph and The Shadow Hour. Her latest, The Heatwave, explores a mother’s return to a family home she left ten years earlier after the death of her elder daughter.
