Books for Kids 2026
In 2026 we want as many children as possible to have a book at home
Books and reading can change lives and, next year, we want to get a book into the hands of as many children as we can.
Why?
Because in 2025, 1 in 10 children aged 5 to 18 do not have a book of their own at home. Book ownership and reading for enjoyment amongst young people aged 8 to 18 is also at its lowest level in more than a decade*.
Does this matter?
Yes! Enjoyment of reading expands knowledge, increases life chances and improves well-being. And that’s why we take authors into schools throughout the year to inspire young people to a life long love of reading.
How you can help
2026 is the National Year of Reading so there’s no better time to inspire young people. We’re taking 12 authors into 20 schools across the region from Nuneaton to Redditch next spring alone, and we have a special event for schools Frank Cottrell-Boyce, the Children’s Laureate, and we want to give as many children a copy of their books as we can.
Just £10 could buy a book each for three children.
Please help us by gifting a lifetime of possibilities.
